Hatched From Scratch
by Turkey Makes Me Sleepy
Turkey Makes Me Sleepy = Michael Adams, Charles Rice Goff III, & Eric Matchett
1 Notes In The Key Of Turkey
2 Cracking The Eggshell
3 The Color Of The Moon
4 If My Father Ever Found Out
5 Silvertone Wires
Recorded At Taped Rugs Studio
Lawrence, Kansas, USA
April 6, 1997
Sound Generators:
Electronic Guitars, Micro Moog Synthesizer, Various Digital Keyboards, Various Percussion, Electronic Children's Toys, Voices, Various Electronic Sound Effects, Several Oddly-Played Vinyl Records
Some Notes:
The five recordings that make up "Hatched From Scratch" are all improvisations that were recorded at the first musical meeting of Adams, Goff, and Matchett. The name, or even the idea of the group: "Turkey Makes Me Sleepy" did not yet exist when this session took place. The trio had become acquainted through their involvement in a community radio station in Lawrence, Kansas, and their shared interest in avant garde home recording brought them together for an afternoon of sonic interaction. The inspired results of that day set off a creative course that has continued to this day, 20 years later.
Only one piece from this first session, a shorter version of "Silvertone Wires," has ever been released to the public on a Turkey Makes Me Sleepy album before now. Taped Rugs produced a few sound collages around the turn of the 21st Century that contain a handful of short edits from this session as well. Those collages blend recordings from a number of different artists into single pieces, pushing the Turkey Makes Me Sleepy bits far into the background of the mixes. The collection of recordings presented here displays the interaction that Adams, Goff, and Matchett cooked up on April 6, 1997, in all its stark vibrancy.
"Hatched From Scratch" is Volume One of the Turkey Makes Me Sleepy "Frozen Embryos" series of audio recordings, begun in 2017 in honor of the group's Twentieth Anniversary. The series documents previously unreleased materials and provides tidbits of trivia for hardcore fans and cassette culture historians. To date, Turkey Makes Me Sleepy has released eight cassette albums, six CDR albums, and a few stray recordings which have appeared on compilations with other artists' works.
